In last couple of days Odesk introduced a chat function on their website. It is currently available to a beta group to review freelancers view on the function. Full roll out will be in coming months. This is part of improvements Odesk has been rolling out in recent months.
Odesk Chat Function
Chat function words together with existing Message function and it is meant to complement it. Odesk wants to make it easier for clients to communicate with their freelancers and vice versa.
Freelancers can chat to any freelancer on various clients teams according to permission client has granted to their freelancers. Most clients never change these permissions, so you would most likely see all team members and be able to chat with them. This has been available already on Team App but now it is also possible on the website.
Here is what chat looks like on Odesk when logged in to website, but not logged into chat.
Chat is automatically on “Available” status when you log in. Status can be set to Available, Away, or Busy, and it is also possible to log out – but that lasts only until you log in again.
User comments we have heard from few Odesk freelancer so far are:
– Great, easier way to communicate with clients as Message function is not really user-friendly.
– Terrible, takes too much space and useless.
– Automatically logged in, not good, but otherwise nice addition.
So we have heard mixed reviews but as it is only Beta stage, final chat function will most likely be somewhat different in the end.
